Our 2013 Sangiovese comes from a hillside vineyard established in the Willow Creek American Viticultural Area. Perfect southern exposure ensures delicious ripeness, while cool mountain air descending every evening from the surrounding 4,000 foot peaks locks in bright, crisp fruit. This Chianti-style wine is food-friendly— a perfect match for Italian, BBQ and Indian cuisine. Only 150 cases produced.
WINEMAKER'S TASTING NOTES:
The aroma is of fresh plums and red huckleberry, followed by subtle notes of madrone wood and sage. This is a Sangiovese with verve and backbone, more like a high elevation Chianti. It is ripe, but balanced by a cooler climate acidity that is typical for the more northern and mountainous Humboldt County. This Chianti-style wine is ready now, but has 5-10 years of staying power more typical of Super Tuscans.
FOOD PAIRING NOTES:
The 2013 Sangiovese, blended with 20% Merlot, is excellent with oven-roasted, grass-fed beef, paired with wild mushrooms to bring out some of its earthier tones. Keep in mind, this 2013 Chianti-style Sangiovese is downright delicious alongside pizza or pasta. Buon appetito!
