Black Bear Cuvee
ESTATE GROWN, HANDCRAFTED WINES OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY
Black Bears rule in the Willow Creek American Viticultural Area. Every autumn they descend from the mountains feeding voraciously before their impending hibernation. And every year they outwit and out-muscle our attempts to keep them from the grapes, devouring much of our future vintage prior to harvest. With a nod of respect, we make Black Bear Cuvée from the very best barrels of wine we were able to harvest and produce. 2016 is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Malbec. Grown and made with zero synthetic pesticides, herbicides or additives. Un-fined and unfiltered. Only 160 cases produced.
WINEMAKER'S TASTING NOTES:
This is a bold, bright blend. The flavors and aromas are red to black fruit, like coastal black berry. There is a touch of pepper and cedar box in the finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich balanced by a cool-climate acidity.
FOOD PAIRING NOTES:
The Black Bear Cuvée is excellent with grass-fed beef. Try it with a tangy sweet barbeque to shoulder some of the tannins or slow roasted with wild mushrooms to bring out some of the earthier tones. Cheers!
