A Unique Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Creative Thanksgiving Centerpiece

No other holiday has as big an emphasis on “The Table” as Thanksgiving. We love Thanksgiving because it is all about family, good food and good drink. Since we live in rural Humboldt County, California, it is rare to get visitors so as friends or family come to visit for Thanksgiving, it is truly a special occasion.

Inspiring Queensland Tulips

Unique gifts for her

The Queensland Tulip, a vivacious and charismatic flower, has candy pink petals with lighter fringed edges. The fringe and the curling outer petals come together to create an exceptionally lovely tulip.

The process of growing this rare beauty begins in the glass greenhouse. Grown in soil, the tulips benefit from a slow growth cycle with wonderful natural light. The even light levels of Humboldt County are essential in getting the rich, saturated colors Stargazer Barn flowers are renowned for.

The Stargazer Bulb Barn

eco friendly tulips

What do tulips, irises, and lilies have in common?  Yes, they are all flowers and yes, they are all offered by us at the Barn, but the deeper, more fundamental commonality is that each one is a flowering bulb. In fact, everything we grow here at the Barn (with the exception of decorative bear grass and salal) is cultivated from a bulb.  We could just as easily be called The Bulb Barn.  I’ve learned everything one needs to know about flowering bulbs here at the Barn and would love to share what makes these beautiful bulbs so special.

Here at the Barn everyone has a favorite flower, and even a favorite part of a flower. Ginny, who works behind the scenes keeping the operation running smoothly, has what at first seems like an odd favorite part of the flower.

With the emergence of new and improved methods for growing and cultivating our food, flowers, and families, we now have the power to demand sustainable practices in partnership with incredible quality.  Consumers are consistently asking, “How was this grown?”  After all, even with cut flowers, there are grower “secrets” and differences in technique which will affect the final product.  With the iconic tulip, for example, there are two main methods for cultivation: a) in soil, or b) in water (aka hydroponics).
